A First-of-Its-Kind Coverflam® PSBC Exercise in Reims

On Thursday, June 26, a Coverflam® PSBC drill was held at the Saint-Remi Museum in Reims. The scenario simulated a fictional attack on the city, requiring the evacuation or protection of the museum’s collections. Ten Ukrainian curators participated in this intensive training exercise, organized by the Ministry of Culture.

The artworks were handled and protected using various methods, including Coverflam® covers—custom-designed by Protecflam—to ensure rapid safeguarding in the event of an emergency.

Ukrainian Expertise in the Service of Heritage Preservation

Coming from museums located in war zones, the participants shared their experiences. In Ukraine, the implementation of cultural property protection plans is a daily reality. Their participation in this Coverflam® cultural property protection exercise made it possible to refine methods and test the effectiveness of the equipment under real-world conditions.

Concrete improvements identified

The exercise highlighted certain weaknesses: safes that were too heavy, a lack of emergency lighting… These details will help strengthen the local PSBC plan. Coverflam® covers proved particularly effective for quickly protecting paintings and sculptures.

A Model to Sustain

This first edition should be repeated regularly to instill the right reflexes and train both museum staff and emergency responders. The use of professional equipment such as Coverflam®, as part of a PSBC, is becoming the standard for protecting France’s cultural heritage.
