World Wine City – Bordeaux

Verniflam® Euroclass B intumescent system

The Cité du Vin – 13,350 m² spread over ten levels – celebrates wines from all over the world. It was designed by the Parisian architecture firm XTU (Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazières) and the English scenography agency Casson Mann, winners of a competition launched by the City of Bordeaux in 2010. The 55-metre-high building is composed of a flat base and a high part. Its wooden framework, visible inside, is made up of 574 arches and 128 glued laminated wooden thorns.

The ceiling of the Thomas Jefferson Auditorium was decorated with suspended wooden tubes. In fact, cardboard tubes veneered in oak, which were fireproofed by applying the Verniflam® Euroclass B intumescent system. A technical feat.

The following were fireproofed using the same process:

  • the spruce and oak “stars” that adorn the ceilings of the restaurant and showroom,
  • the walls and furniture of the library which are mainly made of solid 3-ply spruce panels.

The 2000 m² of maritime pine plywood that litters the main route, including those that have been pyrograved, are fireproof in the mass by Woodenha Industries.
