Fireproofing by intumescent system of wood cladding
The Ateliers des Capucins are buildings of the Arsenal of Brest, in Brittany, built in the nineteenth century, in which the ships of the French Navy were manufactured and repaired until 2004. Retroceded to the City in 2009, they were converted into a cultural and commercial center.
The elevations are made of prefabricated timber frame walls with laminated veneer lumber spurs (height up to 13 m), laminated veneer lumber cladding and are fireproof by application of Proteflam Industries‘ Verniflam® AITHON PV33 intumescent system. This colourless translucent varnish allows the use of wood in this type of construction (regulations require Euroclass C and B in public buildings) by improving its reaction to fire performance while preserving its natural visual appearance. Verniflam® AITHON PV33 also has undeniable environmental qualities with a very low or even no emission of C.O.V. – A+.
